Exploring economic dynamics: conversation with Pierre Wunsch

From January 1st, 2024, Belgium will hold the presidency of the Council of the EU. Belgium has announced that it will be working on enhancing the EU through advancements in climate action, fostering economic growth, and promoting social cohesion.

Within this framework we organised a fireside chat between the Governor of the National Bank of Belgium Pierre Wunsch and Bruegel Director Jeromin Zettelmeyer.
In this event Mr Wunsch and Mr Zettelmeyer discussed the optimal mix between monetary and fiscal policy, its connection to the current situation in the labor market. They also touched upon various aspects tied to climate change policies, the future of energy-intensive firms, international policy coordination (US vs. EU), permitting issues, and the observation that certain regulatory policies may be unnecessarily stringent when subjected to a cost-benefit analysis.
