Judith Hermes
Director General European Policy, International Financial Policy, Federal Ministry of Finance, Germany
Judith Hermes has been the director-general for European policy and international financial policy at the Federal Ministry of Finance since January 2022.
She began her career as a lawyer and joined the Federal Ministry of Finance in 2008 as a policy officer in the directorate-general for financial market policy. She went on to hold a variety of positions and gained many years of experience planning and managing policy processes in the senior management of the Federal Ministry of Finance, the European Central Bank and the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
After returning to the Federal Ministry of Finance in 2016, she served as head of unit AML/CFT before joining Finance Minister Olaf Scholz’s senior staff as director for planning and management and the Minister’s office. In February 2020 she took over as director for general issues and financial aspects of European policy and European law.
Judith Hermes studied law at the University of Bonn, obtained a Masters degree in European Law from the University of Nottingham and received her PhD from the Technical University of Dresden.
