Andreas Billmeier

Andreas Billmeier is a Visiting Fellow at Bruegel. His areas of interest are macroeconomics and monetary policy, as well as financial markets.

He has extensive experience as economist in the financial sector. His most recent research focuses on inflation and all aspects of monetary policy with a particular focus on the European Central Bank, and the interface between economic policy (in particular monetary but also fiscal) and financial markets. Previously, Andreas has also worked on issues related to (primarily) emerging markets, including exchange rate and trade adjustment, financial vulnerabilities and economic liberalisation. 

Andreas is fluent in English, German and Italian. 

Most recently, Andreas was the Chief European economist at Brevan Howard, a leading alternative investment manager. Before joining Brevan Howard in September 2022, he was the European economist at Western Asset (WAMCO) from 2019 and, earlier, worked at Stone Milliner Asset Management LLP from 2014 to 2019 and at Ziff Brothers Investments in New York between 2008 and 2014. He began his career as an economist at the International Monetary Fund in 2002. Andreas studied in Bamberg and Bologna and completed a PhD in economics at the European University Institute in Florence.
