Portrait of the Union as a player on the world stage

In this Chapter, Jean Pisani-Ferry challenges the EU's purpose based on economic and political integration between its Member States. The author believes it is time the European Union defines itself according to its desire to be a player in globalisation and its wish to influence international discussions. Nevertheless, it raises serious questions of competence, governance and conduct which the author acknowledges along with the the issue of legitimacy.
