The London-Brussels Nexus: Does the City get EU right?

The crisis is transforming the relationship between the EU, the UK and the City of London in multifaceted ways. The establishment on 1 January of the European Supervisory Authorities means that the City’s regulatory environment will be more than ever before defined at EU level. At the same time, the advent of a new UK government and the euro crisishave arguably reinforced the traditional British skepticism about a common future with neighbouring Continental countries.

In the wake of UK Financial Secretary Mark Hoban’s speech at Bruegel on 14 March, this will be the first of several sessions of the Finance Focus Breakfast series devoted to this evolving ‘London-Brussels Nexus’. Malcolm Levitt’s report based on interviews with leading practitioners and officials was intended for a City audience and has quickly attained reference status there, but had not until now been presented and discussed on the Continent.
