Andreas Treichl

Chairman of the Management Board, Erste Bank,

Andreas Treichl is Chief Executive Officer of Erste Group Bank AG since 1997. He studied Economic Science at the University of Vienna and started his banking career in 1977 at Chase Manhattan Bank in New York as a credit analyst. Then he worked for Chase in various management positions in Vienna, Athens and Brussels. In 1994, he became Member of the Management Board of Erste Österreichische Spar-Casse and on 1st of July 1997 Chairman of the Board. He managed the bank after the merger with GiroCredit and took it public. Under his leadership and initiative, the bank, which had been a purely local savings bank up to then, expanded into a leading financial services provider in Central and Eastern Europe with more than 16,5 million customers. Andreas Treichl established the Erste Foundation, was Chairman of the Board until 2012 and is Member of the Advisory Board since 2013. He launched numerous initiatives for social development and sustainability, e.g. good.bee and Zweite Sparkasse, enabling access to financial services for disadvantaged target groups.
