Yunpeng is a lecturer/assistant professor in Regional and Urban Planning. He received a master's degree in Urban Management and Development from Erasmus Universiteit Rotterdam in 2009 and a PhD degree in Human Geography from the University of Edinburgh in 2015. Before joining UCD, he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow based at KU Leuven, Belgium.
Yunpeng's research broadly focuses on urban-centric transformations and resulting socio-spatial injustice. His previous research examined (managed) speculative urbanisation, financialisation of land and the state, gentrification and displacements, durable inequality, state violence, resistance, and fragmented authoritarianism. Geographically, he has a strong interest in the Global South/East, with an aim to enrich western-centric urban theories. He is currently working on uneven geographies of digital platforms in China.
