Massimo Suardi

Massimo Suardi is currently Deputy Head of the Cabinet of Valdis Dombrovskis, the European Commission Vice-President for the Euro and Social Dialogue. An economist by training, Massimo Suardi has spent most of his professional career in the Directorate General for Economic and Financial Affairs of the European Commission. He was head of the monetary and exchange rate affairs unit between 2006 and 2010, contributing to the early technical work on the EU response to the crisis. Between 2010 and 2014, he moved to country surveillance, and became the Commission's deputy mission chief for the joint EU/IMF financial assistance programme to Portugal in 2011 and as head of unit for the economic surveillance of Spain and Croatia since 2013. A graduate in economics of Rome University ' La Sapienza', he holds a Master in European Economics from the College of Europe in Bruges. Before joining the Commission he worked at the Bank of Italy and at the University of Nottingham.
