Elmar Brok
Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, European Parliament,
Elmar Brok is a German politician and member of the European People’s Party (EPP). Being in office since 1980, he is the longest serving MEP in Brussels and has held many leadership positions in German and European politics. As the chairman of the committee on foreign affairs in the European Parliament (AFET) he is primarily concerned with EU foreign policy and to this end travels abroad, often into conflict regions.
As a convinced representative of a federal Europe, he is presiding over the Union of European Federalists (UEF) and co-chairing the Spinelli group, whose aim is to create a federal momentum for political decisions in the EU. In addition, Mr. Brok is deputy member of the committee on constitutional affairs and in this spirit is engaged intensively with the Union’s future. Mr. Brok is currently co-authoring a report about the progress of political and economic integration within the boundaries of the EU treaties.
