Alastair Buchan
Head of Brexit Strategy, University of Oxford,
Professor Alastair Buchan took up the role of Head of Brexit Strategy and Pro-Vice-Chancellor in January 2017. He will provide vision and strategic leadership for the University in preparation for Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union. He will develop a Brexit strategy which allows the University to continue as a world leader through the excellence of its research and teaching. Specifically, Professor Buchan will act as University ambassador, developing new international partnerships and networks and identifying new opportunities arising from Brexit. He will also ensure the University’s voice is heard and understood in the Brexit process, allowing Oxford to continue to welcome the world’s most talented academic staff and students and to collaborate with international partners on globally significant research projects.
Professor Alastair Buchan was previously Dean of Medicine and Head of Oxford University’s Medical Sciences Division, a post he held from 2008. Under his leadership, Oxford has been recognised as the world’s best university for medical and health teaching and research for six years running in the Times Higher Education world rankings. He is a neurologist and a world leader in the development of new strategies for the prevention and treatment of strokes.
