Ravi Balakrishnan

Bruegel Non-resident Fellow

Ravi Balakrishnan is a Non-resident Fellow at Bruegel. He specialises in macroeconomic and financial policy.

His research covers labour markets, monetary policy, fiscal rules and inequality, in both advanced and emerging economies. He also studies the dynamics of capital flows, financial systems, inflation and exchange rates.

He speaks English and Spanish.

Previously, Ravi was Chief European Economist at J.P. Morgan, managing both developed and emerging economy teams. Prior to that, Ravi spent over 20 years at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), most recently as Chief of the Division on the euro area and European Union policies. He also spent time in the Western Hemisphere Department as Mission Chief on some Latin American countries and as Deputy Chief of the North American division (with focus on the US). Before the IMF, Ravi spent some time at both the Bank of England and Bank of Spain. Ravi holds a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics.
