Markus Marterbauer
Federal Minister of Finance, Federal Ministry of Finance Austria
Markus Marterbauer is a Federal Minister of Finance of the Republic of Austria.
Born in 1965 in Uppsala, Sweden, Markus Marterbauer has served as Federal Minister of Finance since March 3, 2025.
From 1988 to 1994, he worked as an Assistant at the Institute for Political Economy and Economic Policy at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. He then served as an Economic Consultant at the Austrian Institute of Economic Research (WIFO) from 1994 to 2011. Between 2011 and 2025, he headed the Department of Economics and Statistics at the Chamber of Labour.
Until his appointment as Minister of Finance, Markus Marterbauer was Vice-President of the Austrian Fiscal Council and a University Lecturer at both the University of Vienna and the Vienna University of Economics and Business.
He holds a doctorate in economics (Dr. rer. soc. oec.), obtained in 2001.
