Madalena Barata da Rocha
Madalena is a Research Assistant at Bruegel working on topics including international trade, fiscal policy and monetary policy.
Her research has covered trade patterns including climate-induced disruptions to global value chains, geopolitical tensions and tariff policies. Madalena is also interested in labour market dynamics, gender economics and the intersections between employment and inequality.
She speaks Portuguese, English and Spanish.
Madalena joined Bruegel in March 2025. Before that, she interned at the Central Bank of Portugal, contributing to monetary and financial statistics. She later worked in consulting on financial regulation and as a Research Assistant on public-finance management. She holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in Economics from Nova School of Business and Economics, where her MSc dissertation analysed fiscal multipliers in Portugal using VAR and Local Projections methods.
