Liviu Voinea
Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Romania,
Liviu Voinea has been Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Romania since October 2014. He coordinates the Financial Stability, the Macroeconomic Modelling and Forecasting, and the International Relations departments, among others. He is also Vice-President of the Monetary Policy Committee.
Prior to his current position, Liviu Voinea was Minister Delegate for Budget (member of the government) between December 2012 and August 2014, responsible for budget and public debt. In that capacity, he represented Romania to the ECOFIN Council. In his mandate, Romania exited the excessive deficit procedure and reached the medium term objective of 1% structural deficit. Mr. Voinea was also Secretary of State at the Ministry of Public Finance (May 2012-December 2012) and non-executive Board member of the Romanian Export-Import Bank (2009-2012).
Mr. Liviu Voinea has a Master of Science in Business Administration from School of Business, Stockholm University (1998) and a Ph.D. in economics from the Bucharest University of Economic Studies (2000). He worked as researcher for the Joint Research Center of the European Commission based in Seville, Spain (2004), where he had a post-doctoral fellowship. He is a professor of macroeconomics and international economics at the Bucharest University of Economic Studies. Professor Voinea published articles in international peer-reviewed journals such as Review of International Political Economy and Economics of Transition. In 2007, he received the Romanian Academy Award for economics.
