
Joris Melman
Visiting Fellow,
Joris is staying at Bruegel as a Marie Curie Visiting Fellow, as part of his PhD in political science at the ARENA Centre for European Studies at the University of Oslo. He holds an MA in philosophy from the University of Amsterdam and an MSc in political science from Leiden University.
Joris’ research focuses on public opinion and EU legitimacy. More in particular, his dissertation studies citizens’ perceptions of the euro and its politics.
Prior to his PhD, Joris previously worked at the Dutch embassy in New Delhi, at De Groene Amsterdammer (the Netherlands' oldest newsmagazine), and FinTech startup TAPP.
Joris is a Dutch national, fluent in English and Dutch, and speaks German, French and Norwegian at a basic level.

Europeans take the Euro for granted
We compared an analysis of the media with the preliminary findings of a qualitative research project. The results confirm national differences, but hi
