Javier Ospital
Javier Ospital is a Research Assistant at Bruegel. He is working on topics related to defence, competition and the implications of European rearmament.
His research interests include political economy, international development and industrial policy. His MSc thesis estimated the effects of weather shocks on the export-promotion of Peruvian agricultural products.
Javier speaks Spanish and English.
He joined Bruegel in September 2025. Before that, he worked on the Ukraine Support Tracker at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, where he collected and processed open-source data on military, financial and humanitarian aid. Prior to this, he had policy research experiences with the European Investment Bank and the Centre for the Study of the Presidency and Congress in Washington DC. He holds a master’s in Specialized Economic Analysis with a specialisation in International Trade, Finance and Development from the Barcelona School of Economics, and a bachelor's degree from ESADE Business & Law School.
