Fatima Pires

Deputy Director General International and European Relations, European Central Bank

Fátima Pires is currently Deputy Director General in the Directorate General International and European Relations (as of 1 May 2022) at the European Central Bank. Previously she held the position of Deputy Director General in the Directorate General Macroprudential Policy and Financial Stability since 2018. Before that Fatima was Head of the Financial Regulation and Policy Division, having joined the ECB in 2003. Fatima has a background in finance and economics and brings extensive experience in providing analysis and policy advice on a broad range of international, financial stability, regulatory, supervision and macroprudential issues. Fatima also has experience on European policy matters and has represented the ECB in various high level international and European fora. She previously worked in the Portuguese Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Planning and at the Banco de Portugal. She holds a Masters in Finance from the London Business School.
