Eamon Gilmore
Former Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland
Eamon Gilmore is a diplomat and political leader with decades of experience in international relations, national governance, and human rights advocacy. As the EU Special Representative for Human Rights (2019-2024), he engaged with global leaders on some of the most challenging issues in diplomacy. Simultaneously, as EU Special Envoy for the Peace Process in Colombia (2015-2024), he played a key role in negotiating and implementing Colombia’s historic peace agreement.
Previously, he served as Tánaiste (Deputy Prime Minister) and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Ireland (2011-2014), leading the country’s economic recovery and advancing major social reforms, including same-sex marriage. With 27 years in Parliament, he was also Leader of the Irish Labour Party, overseeing its most successful electoral period.
Beyond politics, Gilmore has held leadership roles in international organizations, including as President of the EU General Affairs Council and Chairperson-in-Office of the OSCE. An accomplished academic and author, he is currently an Adjunct Professor at Dublin City University and lectures at the European Diplomatic Academy, College of Europe.
