Claire Waysand
Claire Waysand is a Non-resident Fellow at Bruegel. She mainly works on energy, energy transition and climate-related topics.
She speaks French and English.
She is also Senior Advisor with the Boston Consulting Group. Previously, she worked as Executive Vice President at ENGIE (2019-2025), where she served as interim CEO of ENGIE in 2020. Before joining the corporate sector, Claire has held a number of public sector positions. In France, she notably served as Chief of Staff to Michel Sapin, Minister of Finance and Public Accounts (2014-2016), Deputy Chief of Staff to Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault (2013-2014) and Deputy Director General of the Treasury (2012-2013). At the International Monetary Fund in Washington, D.C., she worked as Assistant Director in the European and in the Strategy, Policy and Review Department (2019-2012). Claire also has a strong background in European affairs, having represented France in the European Economic and Financial Committee and served as an Executive Director at the European Investment Bank (EIB). She had also been a member of the Board of Radio France, Consortium de Réalisations, and most recently La Poste and Compagnie Nationale du Rhône. Claire holds an engineer degree from Ecole Polytechnique, a master of science in economics from the London School of Economics, a diploma from Ecole nationale de la statistique et de l'administration économique (France), as well as a PhD in economics from Université Paris X.
