Carolin Nerlich

Lead Economist in the Directorate General Economics, European Central Bank

Carolin Nerlich is Senior Lead Economist in the Directorate General Economics of the European Central Bank, where she coordinates the workstream on fiscal policy and climate change. From 2021 to 2024, she worked in the ECB’s Climate Change Centre, where she was responsible for the macroeconomic workstream. Prior to this she held several positions within the bank and worked extensively on the macroeconomic and fiscal implications of population ageing. Before joining the ECB, she worked at the Deutsche Bundesbank and at Deutsche Bank Research. Her research interests include fiscal policy, macroeconomics, population ageing and climate economics. She holds a PhD in economics from the University of Cologne and a master’s degree from the University of Kiel.
