Barbara Kauffmann

Barbara Kauffmann is director for employment and social governance in DG EMPL, dealing among other things with the European semester, social dialogue and analysis. She studied economics at the University of Heidelberg and the University of Florida (Ph.D.). After working for four years in Germany (Kiel Institute of World Economics and Ministry of Finance), she joined the Commission (DG ECFIN) in 1991. She was in charge of units dealing with non-EU as well as EU member states (including macro adjustment programmes) and with the coordination of country surveillance (notably fiscal and European semester activities) joining DG EMPL on 1 October 2015.
