Paweł Samecki

Director of the International Department at Narodowy Bank Polski,

Paweł Samecki was born in 1958 in Łódź. In 1981 he graduated from the University of Łódź and received a Ph.D. in economics from the same university in 1988. From 1981 to 1990 he worked at the University of Łódź, initially as a research assistant and next as an assistant professor. In 1990 he completed a one-year placement at the London School of Economics.

From 1991 to 1996 Mr Samecki managed the Foreign Aid Office in the office of the Government Plenipotentiary for European Integration and Foreign Aid, and afterwards was Head of Department at the Office of the Committee for European Integration (1996-1997). He was Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Finance (1997-1998) and Undersecretary of State at the Office of the Committee for European Integration from mid-1998 to January 2002. In 2003 he was appointed Director of the International Department at Narodowy Bank Polski (NBP; central bank) and served as Member of the Management Board of NBP from 2004 to 2009.

From July 2009 to February 2010 he held the position of Commissioner for Regional Policy at the European Commission. In 2010 he was again employed at NBP and took up his position as Director of the International Department (August 2011). On 17 February 2014, Paweł Samecki was re-appointed Member of the Management Board of Narodowy Bank Polski.
