Visiting Scholar at Harvard University’s Center for European Studies, Senior Economist at the World Bank,

Dr. Marcin Piatkowski is a Visiting Scholar at Harvard University’s Center for European Studies, where he is writing a book on the insights from Poland’s successful economic transition, and a Senior Economist in the World Bank, where his work focuses on promoting trade and competitiveness in Europe and East Asia. Previously, he was Chief Economist and Managing Director of PKO BP, the largest bank in Poland, economist in the European Department of the IMF and Advisor to IMF's Executive Director. During 2002-03, he served as Advisor to Poland's Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance, contributing to the fiscal reform program. Since 2000, he has also been Assistant Professor of Economics at Kozminski University in Warsaw, the highest ranked business school in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE).

Dr. Piatkowski holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Kozminski University and M.A. in Finance and Banking summa cum laude from the Warsaw School of Economics. He was a visiting scholar at Harvard University’s Economics Department, OECD Development Centre and London Business School. He authored a number of books and numerous papers on the growth fundamentals of the CEE region and proposed a new set of policy prescriptions called "The Warsaw Consensus". He is one of the most quoted Polish economists. His World Bank paper on “Poland’s New Golden Age: Shifting from Europe’s Periphery to Its Center” has become an international headline describing Poland’s historically unprecedented economic success in the last 25 years. He is the founder of the “Save on Travel to Help the Poor” initiative, which aims to encourage staff of international institutions to switch air travel from business to economy class and use the savings to fight poverty.
