Servaas Deroose

Servaas Deroose has been Deputy Director-General at the European Commission's Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs since 2010. In this capacity, he coordinates the DG's work on EU Governance, EU Semester, fiscal policy and international economic and financial relations. Mr Deroose has played a leading role in the management of economic adjustment programmes, including Greece and Spain. He has been a member of the Economic and Financial Committee since 2005. After graduating in economics from the University of Ghent, Servaas Deroose worked as a researcher at the Economics Faculty of the University of Ghent. He joined the European Commission in 1985 and has worked mainly in the fields of macroeconomic surveillance (economic forecasts; economic policy co-ordination; budgetary policy) and EMU-related issues (economic convergence; euro adoption; imbalances).
