Roza von Thun

Member of the European Parliament,

Born in 1954, Małopolska-Świętokrzyskie Region. MA in English Philology, Jagiellonian University in Cracow, 1979.

Spokesperson for the Student Committee of Solidarity (SKS) and co-operator of Workers' Defence Committee (KOR) (1977 - 1980). NGO's activist - General Director and Chairwoman of the Polish Robert Schuman Foundation (1992 - 2005).

During campaign before accession referendum in Poland Roza Thun initiated and coorganized many events and public debates on Polish accession to the EU in 2004. Head of the European Commission Representation to Poland (2005 - 2009). Since 2009 European Parliament election, member of the Civic Platform (Platforma Obywatelska).

In European Parliament, during her first term, she worked in the Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection and, as a substitute, in the Committee on Culture and Education. She was also a member of the Delegation for relations with Israel, Delegation to the UfM Parliamentary Assembly and Delegation for relations with the Palestinian Legislative Council. During the second term she resigned from the Committee on Culture and Education and started working, as a substitute, in the Committee on the Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs.

In 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2017 voted “The MEP of the Year” in the category Internal Market and Consumers Affairs and in 2014 in the category Internet Policy during the MEP Awards Gala of “The Parliament Magazine”. In 2012 voted “2011 Person of the Year in Malopolska” by the readers of the “Gazeta Krakowska” and one of the five most influential women of Malopolska in 2011.
