Biodiversity is decreasing at an unprecedented rate. But what are the risks of biodiversity loss to financial institutions? And why has this relationship been ignored by economics until now?

At this event, speakers from Banque de France presented "A 'Silent Spring' for the Financial System?", a newly published paper discussing the relationship between biodiversity loss and financial instability in France. The authors found that “42% of the market value of securities held by French financial institutions comes from issuers (non-financial corporations) that are highly or very highly dependent on at least one ecosystem service".
