The single market and growth for Europe

One of the points European leaders have agreed during the last phase of the crisis is that increased economic growth is essential for Europe to emerge successfully from the present crisis. Despite the enormous benefits of the Internal Market, growth in the euro zone and Europe in general was disappointing before the crisis, and has not yet improved.

How can we extract economic benefits from the completion of the Single Market? How can we drive European growth in the medium to long term so that Europe can comfortably pay its debts? Do the European Union and its Member States have the right policies in place to stimulate economic growth?

The Deputy Prime Minister of the UK, the Rt. Hon. Nick Clegg addressed these issues in an event organised by the European Parliament with Bruegel. Chaired by Guntram Wolff, Bruegel’s Deputy Director, the Deputy Prime Minister’s address was followed by short comments from Bruegel Fellow Benedicta Marzinotto, and questions from the floor.
