In June 2018, the EU and Australia launched negotiations for a comprehensive Free Trade Agreement. Australia’s position in the world as a top 20 trading nation is underpinned by its advocacy for an open global economy and by trade agreements that ensure the lowest possible barriers to trade and investment. The Australia-EU FTA negotiations seek to provide new opportunities for companies and consumers, and set the benchmark for what can be achieved between like-minded partners in global trade.
At this event we welcomed the Australian Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham, on his inaugural official visit to Brussels. He delivered a speech on the Australia-EU bilateral trade, the FTA negotiations, and the importance of multilateral rules-based trading system. The speech was followed by a Q&A session.
