After reaching the brink of collapse, the financial systems of advanced economies appear increasingly stable. However, risks still remain – especially in emerging markets, which now play a greater role in the world economy. Many emerging markets have enhanced their policy frameworks and resilience to external shocks, but others face substantial domestic imbalances, as the commodity super cycle and credit boom come to an end.
We are pleased to welcome IMF Financial Counsellor and Director José Viñals, who will discuss the 2015 October IMF Global Financial Stability Report. He will suggest that an urgent policy upgrade is vital to normalise monetary and financial conditions and to anchor financial stability.
This will be followed by a discussion with Sheri Markose from the University of Essex and a representative from business, chaired by Bruegel Senior Fellow Nicolas Véron.
The event will be public and on the record. A live stream will be available on this page.
