On democracy in Europe with Mario Monti and Sylvie Goulard
This debate with Sylvie Goulard and Mario Monti was based on their recently published book, “On democracy in Europe. Looking ahead”.*
Europeans aim to achieve strength, as if Europe was united, but they do so without the willingness to give up even a part of their sovereignty, as if a united Europe did not exist at all. This contradiction has become unsustainable. Financial drifts and high debt represent just one aspect of a crisis which has brought to light the interdependence and fractures that characterize democracy in Europe.
