Navigating an interconnected world: revamping IMF surveillance

The Great Recession demonstrates how intertwined the global economy has become. Given this new reality, top Fund officials want to discuss their efforts to refocus and sharpen IMF surveillance. They are seeking feedback on the Pilot External Sector Report - a new product based on revamped assessment methods that analyzes the sources of and cures to global current account imbalances and volatile capital flows - and a new strategy to reboot country reports by adding inward and outward spillovers.
