Designing a Grand Challenge type of Innovation Policy: a first case from green innovation policy

The aim of the workshop was to kickstart a network of academic researchers with the goal of feeding the policy debate on “new industrial policy” and “grand challenge science & innovation policies” with insights from past as well as new academic research.

Climate change is perhaps the most pressing “grand challenge”, where public support for science, technology and innovations will be pivotal to leverage the private green innovation machine.  This leaves as a first challenge for the network, a discussion on how to structure a “grand program” innovation policy response to the CC-GC (Climate Change Grand Challenge) effectively and efficiently.
