Neil Meads will discuss key insights from Chapter 3 of the IMF’s April 2025 World Economic Outlook: Journeys and Junctions: Spillovers from Migration and Refugee Policies. He will examine how changes in migrant and refugee policies can affect where people move between economies, the legal pathways they take, and the economic implications (challenges and opportunities) for economies receiving additional flows—with variation over time and according to the composition of flows. The discussion will also cover how policymakers can address challenges and better reap the benefits of handling inflows of people, and how international cooperation can help distribute short-term costs more evenly.
