Q&A
12:15-12:30The agreement was concluded on 27 January 2026, following nearly two decades of negotiations, and marks a major milestone in EU–India economic relations. It is expected to significantly expand trade and investment between the two partners by reducing tariffs on a large share of goods and deepening cooperation across multiple sectors.
The event is being jointly organised by the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) and Bruegel (a Brussels-based think tank), with the objective of facilitating a substantive exchange among leading experts from India and the EU on the implications of the FTA for both sides, as well as for the future of the multilateral trading system.
