20:00At this event, we screened the French documentary Jean Monnet, l'aventurier de l'Europe (with English subtitles). The documentary follows the fascinating life of Jean Monnet, one of the founding fathers of the European Economic Community. He pursued his vision of a European Economic Community even when it meant being in opposition to formidable figures such as Charles de Gaulle. At a time when trust in the EU is waning across the continent, this documentary provides an inspiring reminder of the values at the core of the European project.
After the film there was a brief discussion with Jean-Marc Lieberherr, grandson of Jean Monnet and founder of the institute that carries his grandfather's name.
