The database, for the first time in Europe, combines measures of firms’ international activities (e.g. exports, outsourcing, FDI, import) with quantitative and qualitative information on around 150 items including R&D and innovation, labour organisation, financing and organisational activities and pricing behaviour. The data consists of a representative sample (at the country level for the manufacturing industry) of almost 15,000 surveyed firms (above 10 employees) in seven European economies (Germany, France, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Austria, and Hungary). The data was collected in 2010, thus covering the years from 2007 to 2009. Special questions relating to the behaviour of firms during the crisis have also been included in the survey.

DATASET

The EFIGE database is made of four different datasets:

CONTENT

This set only contains EFIGE survey data, firm level (log) TFP in 2008 and 2014 and average TFP growth for the years 2001-2007, 2008-2009 and 2010-2014. No balance sheet figures are included. Information are truncated/aggregated to make firms’ identities undetectable. Regional and industry fixed effects are present for each firmbut also anonymised.

DOWNLOAD & USER MANUAL

CONTENT

This set contains Balance sheet figures merged with the Truncated 1 set of data.

ACCESS

Only people/institutions who possess (themselves or through the institution they belong to) a valid BvD-AMADEUS license can have access to this version.

Contact our Research Assitant team for more information.

CONTENT

This is the dataset used in Bruegel’s Blueprint “Triggers of Competitiveness”, complemented with balance sheet figures up to 2014. These data are not truncated. Interested people can get them with or without firms’ balance sheet depending on their access to the AMADEUS database. Information on individual industries and regions is available, but firm ID is always hidden.

ACCESS

Access to this data is granted only to people/institutions who commit (by signing the confidentiality agreement) not to take away, in any form, not even partially or temporarily, any kind of information from the set that is made available.

Importantly, the only way to work with this set is to come to Bruegel and work on the data at Bruegel’s premises and only using Bruegel facilities.

To get the version of the quasi-full set that also contains balance sheet figures, interested people have to show they possess (themselves or through the institution they belong to) a valid BvD-AMADEUS license.
