On 24 September 2018, Reinhilde Veugelers testified before the European Parliament’s Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE).
She provided an overview of the changing environment of Europe’s economic activities and the resulting implications for the post-Brexit industrial policy. In the face of EU’s increased integration within the Global Value Chains (GVCs), the author argued the need for a horizontal policy agenda that comprises an open trade policy with extra-EU and industrial policy intra-EU.
She also highlighted the importance of pivotal sectors and markets monitoring and outlined the challenges facing Europe’s innovation capacity.
