Olli Kangas

Olli Kangas took his PhD in Sociology at the University of Helsinki (1991). He is Director of Governmental Relations at the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela). He has worked as Olof Palme visiting Professor at the Uppsala University  H.C. Andersen Professor at the University of Southern Denmark, Research professor at the Danish National Institute for Social Research (2004-2007), Professor in Social Policy, University of Turku (1994-2004) and research fellow at the Academy of Finland 1987-1993. Olli Kangas’ Research interests revolve around comparative analysis of social policy systems, their causes and consequences in terms of macro-economy, income distribution, poverty, employment, gender equality, population health and well-being and legitimacy of institutional social policy solutions. Currently he is the planner and leader of the ongoing Finnish experiment with basic income, the head of the strategic research program “Equal Society” financed  by the Academy of Finland and a member of a Prime Minister’s expert group on reforming the Finnish social policy system.
