Luis Alvarado Martinez

President, European Youth Forum,

Originally from the Canary Islands (Spain). 27 years old. Luis became President of the European Youth Forum on January 1st 2017.

After having studied under Spanish, British, French and Belgium educational systems, Luis is a true European by heart. He holds a Master European Political & Public Administration Studies by the College of Europe in Bruges and undergoes Executive Education at the London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE)

Luis has developed most of his volunteer and professional youth work career in AEGEE-Europe/European Students´ Forum, where he was President and traveled the continent empowering students to take an active role in the European integration process. He has worked closely in youth areas with the UN system, OSCE, European Parliament, the European Commission, the Council of the EU and the Council of Europe.

He has been a Member of the Advisory Council on Youth of the Council of Europe and has sat in different boards for different Civil Society Organizations.

Luis was also Vice President of the European Youth Forum, for the mandate 2015-2016 where helped lead and manage EU relations and affairs, specifically around funding and the Erasmus + program negotiations, EU Youth Policy and YFJ's Quality Standars. He was also Chair of the European Steering Committee of the Structured Dialogue with the European Commission and the Council of the EU trio Presidencies of Italy-Latvia-Luxembourg and The Netherlands-Slovakia-Malta.

Luis' work has been recognized with several distinctions such as "Young European of the Year 2014" by the Schwarzkopf Foundation, the European Charlemagne Youth Prize 2013 by the European Parliament and the Public Service Innovation Award 2015 by the European Center for Government Transformation among others.

Luis works for the Rockefeller Foundation's 100 Resilient Cities initiative in London. He speaks Spanish, French, English & Italian and is currently trying to get his hands around the Cyrillic alphabet to learn Serbian & Macedonia.

As a former basketball player he loves finding time to play, as well as reading, going to the cinema and discovering London's most quirky and secret bars.
