Luigi Paganetto

Luigi Paganetto is an Italian economist and Professor emeritus, appointed by the Italian Minister of Education (June 27, 2012). He is President of Tor Vergata Economics Foundation – FUET at Tor Vergata University of Rome, established in 2008 with the mission of facilitating the cooperation among Universities, Firms and Institutions. Professor of European Economics at Tor Vergata School of Economics, recently he was appointed Vice Chairman of Cassa Depositi e Prestiti S.p.A., as well as Chairman of the Risk Committee.

He is also Coordinator of the project “Gruppo dei 20 – How to Revitalize Anaemic Europe”, a group of distinguished academics and experts (Tor Vergata Group of 20). The Group created a think tank that aims to produce reports and documents in order to face governance issues in the European Union. Furthermore, Luigi Paganetto is Secretary-General of Villa Mondragone Economic Development Association born from the network of economists and ideas turning around the prestigious Villa Mondragone International Economic Seminar, an annual event started in 1989.

He is Professor at the National School of Public Administration (SNA); IEA (International Economic Association) Permanent Fellow; non-resident Senior Fellow in the Global Economy and Development program at Brookings Institution; Board Member of Bruegel; and Foreign Member of The Center on Capitalism and Society at Columbia University.

From 1988 to 2007 hold the position of Dean of the Faculty of Economics at Tor Vergata University of Rome where he was also full Professor of International Economics.

He has been Economic Consultant of the Jiangsu Provincial Government (China); the Italian Representative in the High Level Group of 12 experts for the Lisbon Strategy, contributing to drawing up the “Facing the Challenge” Kok Report - European Commission; Secretary General of IEA from 2008 to 2011; President of ENEA (Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Environment) from 2007 to 2009, where introduced the approach of evaluation and strategic choices for the development of technology and innovation; President of the Economics Committee and Vice President of the National Research Council of Italy – CNR; and the Italian Representative in the Political Economy Committee of OECD.

Moreover, he has been Member: of the Scientific Committee of the Court of Auditors; of the Board of Directors of Italian National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT); of the Group of Experts in the European Commission Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Technology Undertaking; of the Board of the Diplomatic Institute of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; of the Council of Experts of the Italian Prime Minister Office; and of the Scientific Committee at IADB (Inter-American Development Bank). Author of articles, papers and books in macro and micro economic theory, international economics and Italian and European industrial economics. His research focused and still continues to focus on international economic issues, economic development and industrial economy, energy and environment, digital divide and technological change. He mastered on several topics, such as: European governance and economic policies, economics of justice, healthcare and wellbeing, and Italian growth and welfare policies. He promoted the development of the public Institutions research through his studies and his great attention to the major themes of economy and to social issues.
