Research Fellow and Speaker Research Team, GIGA Institute of Latin American Studies,

Luicy Pedroza is a full-time researcher at the German Institute of Global and Area Studies (GIGA). She received her doctorate in Political Science summa cum laude from the University of Bremen in 2012. Her work focuses on the comparative politics of citizenship with an interdisciplinary perspective - at the crossroads of Political Sociology, Political Theory and Political Science. In her post-doctoral research at the interdisciplinary network desigualdades.net (Freie University Berlin) and later in the GIGA she has gradually connected the dilemmas of the liberal democracies with respect to the political integration of emigrants and immigrants. Her most recent publications on citizenship, political rights and migration can be found in scientific journals such as Citizenship Studies, International Migration, Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies and Political Geography, but also in publications targeting wider audiences such as International Affairs Forum, Letras Libres andHorizontal. She is currently the speaker of the Research Team on Democratic Institutions at GIGA and the leader of a research project supported by the Leibniz Community that will compare migration policies (both emigration and immigration) in three regions of the world.
