Emilios Avgouleas

Professor Emilios Avgouleas is the inaugural holder of the International Banking Law and Finance Chair at the University of Edinburgh and the founding director of the Edinburgh LLM in International Banking Law and Finance and the director of the Edinburgh Centrer for Commercial Law. He has served as a visiting professor, professorial fellow, or senior research scholar at Yale Law School, Harvard Law School, National University of Singapore, Hong Kong University, Duke University, Chinese University of Political Science and the Law (CUPL). He is a Member the Stakeholder Group of the European Banking Authority and an independent member of a European select panel on Greek banking. Emilios is an acknowledged expert on public policy and financial reform, financial market regulation, banking law and finance, and global economic governance. He is the author of a large number of scholarly articles and of four books: Governance of Global Financial Markets: The Law, the Economics, the Politics (Cambridge University Press, 2012); The Mechanics and Regulation of Market Abuse: A Legal and Economic Analysis (Oxford University Press, 2005). He has authored Part 1, chapters 1-5 of Principles of Banking Law (Oxford University Press, 3rd ed., 2017)(the law & economics of Bank Regulation & Supervision). He co-authored & co-edited: Reconceptualizing Global Finance and its Regulation (Cambridge University Press, 2016).
