Alevgul Sorman

Alev Sorman has formerly been a postdoctoral researcher within the Integrated Assessment group at the Institute of Environmental Science and Technology (ICTA) of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). She received her PhD from the same institute in 2011 focusing on the “Energetic Metabolism of Societies”. She has collaborated in projects applying the societal metabolism framework to different cases; in energy planning in the African context, analyzing tourism dynamics in the Galapagos Islands and investigating water metabolism and options of conflict resolution on the island of Cyprus. Alev holds a BSc in Environmental Engineering from the Middle East Technical University (METU), Ankara, Turkey with a period spent abroad at Rice University – Houston, Texas, USA. She completed her masters in 2007, with an MSc degree in LUMES – Lund University International Master’s Programme in Environmental Studies and Sustainability Science, Lund, Sweden.

She has previously been a visiting researcher at the Pufendorf Institute for Advanced Studies (Sweden), Universidad Federal do Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), Instituto de Altos Estudios (Ecuador) and the Italian National Institute for Statistics (Italy). In 2012, she also participated in the 24th Ship for World Youth (SWY) Programme hosted by the The International Youth Exchange Organization of Japan (IYEO).
