Portrait of Elliot Posner

Elliot Posner, Associate Professor of Political Science at Case Western Reserve University, is splitting the 2011-2012 academic year between Bruegel and Sciences Po’s Centre d’études européennes in Paris.   He is being funded by a European Union Affairs Fulbright Research grant.

Posner’s research focuses on the politics of financial regulation and markets.  Highlighting European Commission efforts to promote venture capital, his book, The Origins of Europe’s New Stock Markets (Harvard University Press, 2009), addresses fundamental questions about the origins of markets and their relationship to politics and bureaucracy.  His publications on transatlantic regulatory cooperation and EU financial arrangements are available on his department website [http://politicalscience.case.edu/faculty/elliot-posner/].  While at Bruegel, he will be continuing his work on financial regulatory developments at the European, transatlantic and global levels and will begin a project on innovative governance forms in the EU and international bodies.

Before earning a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, Posner received degrees from the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) at the Johns Hopkins University (M.A.) and Brown University (B.A.).
