Crisis Developments and Long-Term Global Responses- Insights from Asia and Europe
AEEF Conference, Kiel, 7-8 July 2009
The Asia Europe Economic Forum of 2009 was hosted by the Kiel Institute and jointly organised by its members. The discussions focused on the crisis developments and policy choices in Asia and Europe, the future of global monetary arrangements and the prospects for global regulatory reforms.
The aim was to develop credible strategies to sustain a more stable economy. The situation of Asia and Europe in the crisis and key policy actions to be undertaken was discussed. Questions over new monetary arrangements, such as the possibility to introduce the SDR as an alternative reserve currency were debated with a view to clarifying the conceptual framework of such a revolution in the monetary system. Finally, insights for global regulatory reforms were presented.
