Vittorio Grilli is Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Italy (MEF), since November 2011. Prior to this appointment, from 2005 to 2011, he was Director General of the Treasury – MEF. From 2002 to 2005, he was General Accountant of the Italian State - MEF. From 2001 to 2002 he covered the role of Managing Director at Credit Suisse First Boston, London. Between 1994 and 2000, he served as Head of the Department of Economics and Financial Analysis and Privatizations at the Italian Ministry of the Treasury, Budget and Financial Programming. From 1990 to 1994 he was "Woolwich Professor of Financial Economics", University of London, Birkbeck College, UK. From 1986 to 1990 he was Professor of Economics at the Department of Economics, Yale University - USA.

During the course of his office at the Ministry of Economy and Finance he was appointed: Chairman of EFC - Economic and Financial Committee - of the European Commission; Chairman of the EFSF Board of Directors;  Vice-Chairman of FSC (Financial Services Committee) – of the European Council; Chairman of the OECD Privatization Network. Furthermore, he was President of the Italian Institute of Technology Foundation (IIT) and Board Member in several listed and non-listed Companies.

Vittorio Grilli holds a degree in Discipline Economiche e Sociali from "Luigi Bocconi" University (Milan) and a Ph.D. in Economics from University of Rochester, NY.

He is currently member of the Aspen Institute Italia.
