Bruegel is looking to recruit research assistants to start in August or September of 2010. We welcome applications from all areas of economic research. The successful candidates are expected to collaborate with fellows on specific projects and to participate in Bruegel events. Two types of positions are available:

i. Full-time positions: non-renewable one year fixed-term contract. Applicants must hold a Master's degree or equivalent in Economics.

ii. Part-time positions: renewable fixed-term contracts, for students actively enrolled in Economics PhD programmes.

Candidates must have a Master's degree, or equivalent, in Economics, possess experience in empirical work and have an interest in applied, policy-oriented research. Technical strengths in quantitative economic methods as well as a good grasp of economic concepts and fluency in written and spoken English are required. Versatility, international experience, command of further languages and the ability to work in a team are desired. No particular nationality is required; candidates from the new member states of the EU are encouraged to apply. Please note that this position is not suitable for candidates who have already completed their PhD studies.

If interested, please send your CV and a cover letter indicating your desired term and position to this e-mail.

Internships

Bruegel offers a range of internship opportunities to current and recent students at both the undergraduate and graduate level. These internships are designed to give individuals the opportunity for practical experience in an environment that successfully mixes academic study with public policy. Bruegel is a small and flexible organisation and interns will have the opportunity to make a real impact. Availability of positions generally corresponds to the beginning of the autumn, spring and summer terms, but appointments are made throughout the year for periods of varying length.

There are three types of internships: communications internships, operational internships and research internships.

Communications internships include but are not limited to: press outreach, media analysis, and website maintenance, as well as supporting the communications team in the promotion of Bruegel publications and other output.

Operational internships include but are not limited to: event support and assistance; database management; and other administrative tasks.

Research internships are limited to those with a background in economics. Recent Masters graduates or Masters/PhD students in Economics who are interested in applied, policy-oriented research are welcome to apply.

All interns will have the opportunity to be in contact with top researchers in their field of expertise, as well as the chance to attend all Bruegel events, which are normally not open to the public.

There may be a small stipend available for interns. Applications for all internships are accepted on a rolling basis. If interested, please send your CV and a cover letter indicating your desired term and position to this e-mail.
