The Board appoints the Director and senior staff and has decision-making powers on strategy, research programme, partnerships and budget but no responsibility for research conclusions and publications.
The statute and bylaws ensure that the Board's composition reflects the public-private balance and the diversity of Bruegel's stakeholders. The Statement on Research Integrity safeguards the independence, integrity and objectivity of Bruegel‘s research, as well as ensuring Bruegel‘s staff conform to the highest standards for their public statements and activities.
Bruegel's Scientific Council is appointed by the Board and consists of 8 internationally recognised scholars and experts. Its task is to advise the Board on research issues and monitor the academic quality of the organization's production.
The Director manages Bruegel and represents it externally. Jean Pisani-Ferry is Bruegel's Director, appointed in January 2005.
Bruegel‘s funding is mainly composed of yearly subscriptions from its members. The relative levels of state members‘ contributions are set by Exhibit 1 of the bylaws. All corporate members currently contribute the same yearly amount, i.e. ‚ €50,000 per year. In total, subscription funding is balanced between public and private-sector contributions, and no single member contributed more than 5% of the yearly budget.
